Whitney James
Founder & Principal, Altara Advisory
Whitney James is the Founder & Principal of Altara Advisory, a strategic advisory firm working at the intersection of capital, real estate, health, and legacy.
Whitney works with individuals, families, investors, and institutions navigating consequential decisions involving real estate, strategic investments, healthcare, and long-term family priorities. Her work includes sourcing and evaluating real estate opportunities, connecting capital and relationships, and helping clients think strategically about acquisitions, dispositions, development, and the role of real assets within a broader portfolio.
Her perspective is shaped by an uncommon career spanning medicine, healthcare, investing, and real estate. Whitney trained at Yale University and Johns Hopkins and spent much of her career as a neurosurgeon. The discipline of medicine continues to inform her approach to advisory work: understand the underlying system, identify what matters most, evaluate incomplete information, assess risk carefully, and make complex decisions with a long-term perspective.
Today, Whitney's work extends beyond individual transactions. She is particularly interested in the convergence of healthcare, capital, technology, and real assets—and the forces that will shape wealth, health, and legacy over the coming decades. Her areas of interest include healthcare transformation, artificial intelligence, digital assets, natural resources, and the infrastructure underlying the global economy.
